I would rush home do my chores and watch the musicals faithfully. I saw myself as one of Fred Astaire’s dance partners. I know. I know, not what you expected from an African-American. But you have to understand that I was born Colored, then redefined as Negro, then Black and now African-American. We didn’t have the ethnic faces that surround us today. During my defining years, the United States were transitioning from segregation to integration. Nat King Cole was our Arsenio Hall. Times have changed.
